ABOUT DREAMS TAKE FLIGHT
Dreams Take Flight is a national non-profit organization dedicated to providing the trip-of-a-lifetime to medically, mentally, physically, socially or emotionally challenged children.
Dreams Take Flight took wing in 1989, when a group of Air Canada employees in Toronto organized a trip that took 70 special needs children on board a DC-9 aircraft to Walt Disney World in Florida.
In 1993, Air Canada employees in Calgary raised enough money to send 50 children to Disneyland in California. The organizing committees in Calgary and Vancouver shared a Boeing 767 aircraft on October 16, 1993 for the Dreams Take Flight adventure. This was the birth of Dreams Take Flight in Calgary.
Fast forward to 1997, when the charity expanded to service eight cities across this great country. Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Ottawa, Toronto, Montreal and Halifax each take a plane load of deserving kids to either Disneyland or Disney World for a once in a life time adventure.
The special kids who make up the day include terminally and chronically ill children as well as children who are mentally, physically, socially and emotionally challenged.
Since 1993 the Dreams Take Flight chapter in Calgary has taken more than 3,000 children to see Mickey and his friends. The charity and all the dedicated volunteers are honoured to give special needs children the opportunity to visit the Magic Kingdom and participate in the Dreams Take Flight adventure. Past participants now volunteer their time to share the joy they experienced to a new generation of recipients.
We would welcome you to consider taking part in our adventure.
See you in the skies…
